Lobster roll, Maritimes

I had many a lobster roll in my one week sojourn across the Maritimes, but I lost some photos as I do whenever I reset my phone, and so, this is the only one I have. Where I do not remember, but it was in a restaurant that appeared to almost be floating in the middle of a lake. Was it in Cape Breton? Prince Edward Island? I honestly don't remember anymore even if it was just a couple weeks ago. I know by the salad it was near the end as I just wanted greens, and I didn't get the fish and chips as I couldn't handle anything more that was fried. This lobster roll was okay. It was pretty tame, not a lot of butter, just some cold lobster between two slices of bread.

Chicken Kalamata, Starbucks, an Airport

Young Elvis reporting with more of a photo essay here, as I got some time on my hands. I'm stuck in the airport with $20 travel delay voucher from the airline and Starbucks seems to be the best option. Hidden under huge poofy bread -- the kind that one quickly grows weary of chewing -- is a pretty decent piece of grilled chicken, and quite a few leaves of slimy lettuce. Not bad.

Braised Radicchio and Niçoise Sandwiches, PLENTY Cafe, Toronto

I always want to think that radicchio prepared in this way is a high-class Italian thing, but honestly it’s a bit strange tasting. Maybe the magic is in the pairing, and in this instance, the cheese here wasn’t quite right. They seem to have retired this sandwich since I first had it. Lest readers think that I use You Say Sandwich as a platform for complaining, I'm thrilled to report that the PLENTY Nicoise sandwich is so good I’m surprised I haven’t come across it before—my favorite salad in sandwich form! Olive tapenade, tomato, cucumber, hard boiled egg, tuna salad with green onions. This is just such an overdue sandwich concept. I once feared that these loaves would rip up the top of my mouth--the phenomena that J.D. and I tend to call “crust burn”--but they’re surprisingly gentle for the good tooth exhibited.  The roasted shallot salad dressing on the greens that accompany each sandwich is sweetly addictive.

A sandwich with a flight of salads

This was a ham sandwich. If you look closely, you can see the ham beneath the medley of fresh carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, and lettuce. Unfortunately, this sandwich was only an incidental experience. I can't for the life of me remember or find the name of this place, except that it was located in a large atrium in downtown Victoria in the same building as an amazing cookery store. I recall having had beer battered fish and chips the night before, and needing something green, I was told this place had really great salads and that you could order up to three different salads to try, like a flight of wine or whisky. Still, I saw a sandwich, so I got one, but I also tried their kale salad which blew my mind, and yes, I am talking salad here, not sandwiches, which is how good their salads were.
